Amidst the hustle and bustle of school, sports, and social activities, we understand the need for flexible and efficient treatment methods. At Sawgrass Orthodontics, we offer a range of orthodontic solutions designed to fit into your teen's busy lifestyle. From traditional braces to clear aligners, we ensure that orthodontic care doesn't interfere with your teen's daily activities.
Orthodontics for Adults
Believe it or not, orthodontic treatment isn't just for kids and teens. In fact, about 20 percent of all orthodontic patients today are adults. It's never too late to achieve the smile you've always wanted. At Sawgrass Orthodontics, we offer discreet treatment options, including clear braces and invisible aligners, that allow you to improve your smile without disrupting your professional or personal life.
What Does a Weston Orthodontist Do?
A Weston orthodontist is a dental specialist who diagnoses and treats misaligned teeth, bite issues, and jaw irregularities. Unlike general dentists who handle cleanings, fillings, and routine dental care, orthodontists complete two to three additional years of residency training focused exclusively on tooth movement and facial development. (And if you've ever searched for "orthopedic" care in Weston, you may have been looking for us, since orthodontic and orthopedic are commonly confused terms.)
Dr. Penelope Reingowsky and Dr. Kristen Igualada-Heine focus exclusively on orthodontic care for Weston families. That specialized focus means you get expert treatment backed by years of dedicated training and hands-on clinical experience with cases ranging from simple spacing corrections to complex bite reconstruction.
So what can you expect? We offer treatment options to fit every smile:
- Traditional metal braces: the tried-and-true option that works for complex cases
- Ceramic braces: a more subtle look with the same effective results
- Invisalign: removable clear aligners that fit your lifestyle
- Forsus appliances: used alongside braces to correct significant bite issues
Orthodontic care benefits patients of all ages. Kids, teens, and adults all see incredible results. Whether your seven-year-old needs early intervention or you're finally ready to straighten your own smile, we're here for you.
Benefits of Choosing a Weston Orthodontist at Sawgrass Orthodontics
Sawgrass Orthodontics helps Weston families achieve straighter teeth that do more than look great. They're easier to clean, which reduces your risk of cavities and gum disease. When teeth overlap or crowd together, brushing and flossing become a real challenge. Straightening them out makes daily care simple and effective.
Bite alignment matters too. When your upper and lower teeth don't meet properly, it creates uneven wear. Over time, this leads to jaw discomfort, headaches, and even cracked teeth. Correcting your bite now prevents bigger issues later. Many families don't realize how much a misaligned bite affects everyday comfort until they experience the difference proper alignment makes.
Then there's the confidence factor. A beautiful, healthy smile changes how you feel about yourself. Families tell us all the time how much their new smile has improved their daily life, and that boost in self-esteem is something we never get tired of seeing.

Your Orthodontic Treatment Process at Sawgrass Orthodontics
Starting orthodontic treatment is easier than you might think. Here's exactly what to expect when you visit our Weston practice:
Step 1: Free Consultation
This is the fun part. Your first visit to Sawgrass Orthodontics includes a thorough exam, digital imaging using our iTero Digital Impression System, and a full evaluation of your smile. We'll sit down with you, talk about your goals, answer every question you have, and give you a clear picture of what's possible. No cost, no obligation. Bring the whole family if you want.
Step 2: Customized Treatment Plan
Based on your exam, we'll create a customized treatment plan designed just for you. We'll walk through your options, whether that's traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, or Invisalign. You'll know exactly what to expect, including your timeline and investment.
Step 3: Appliance Placement or Aligner Fitting
Time to get started. We'll place your braces or fit your first set of aligners, send you home with clear care instructions, and make sure you feel confident about keeping everything on track.
Step 4: Regular Progress Visits
You'll come in every four to eight weeks for adjustments and monitoring. These visits are quick. We'll check your progress, make any needed adjustments, and keep your treatment moving on schedule. Dr. Penny and Dr. Kristen personally review each case at every visit at Sawgrass Orthodontics, so you always know your care is in expert hands. They'll flag anything that needs attention and celebrate the milestones with you along the way.
Step 5: Treatment Completion and Retention
When your teeth reach their perfect positions, we'll remove your braces or complete your aligner series. Then comes the retainer, which is the key to keeping your dream smile for life. Regular retainer use keeps your teeth exactly where they belong, and we'll show you exactly how to care for it.
Who Is a Candidate for Orthodontic Treatment?
Most children, teens, and adults are candidates for orthodontic treatment. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation at age seven. Teens benefit from ideal jaw development timing, and adults increasingly choose discreet options like Invisalign. We'll figure out the right approach for you during your free consultation.
Children (Age 7 and Up)
Per the American Association of Orthodontists, children should have their first orthodontic evaluation around age seven. At this age, we can spot potential issues early. Catching problems while the jaw is still growing means we may be able to correct them with minimally invasive treatment instead of more complex care later.
Teens
Teens are the age group we see most often, and for good reason. It's an ideal time for treatment because the jaw is still developing. We offer traditional metal braces and Invisalign Teen, which includes compliance indicators so parents can stay worry-free about whether aligners are being worn.
Adults
More adults than ever are choosing orthodontic treatment. Discreet options like Invisalign make it easier to straighten your teeth without anyone noticing. Rather than interfering with your lifestyle, Invisalign works around it.
Common Issues We Treat
- Crowding and spacing
- Overbite and underbite
- Crossbite and open bite
- Jaw alignment concerns
